Supporting Alzheimer's Society

testimonial "Hi, I’m Nicolas, one of Nest’s product design managers. In my spare time, I co-lead our charity working group. Our team of Nest volunteers has raised money for a range of different charities, helping to shine a spotlight on many worthwhile causes."

This year, Nest have chosen Alzheimer’s Society as our charity of the year. We’ll run a series of internal fundraising events to help support the great work they do.

Alzheimer’s affects nearly one million people in the UK, with the vast majority of people with dementia over the age of 65. Many struggle to get the support they need, when they need it. In turn, partners, family and friends are forced to step up to provide unpaid care. Research shows there’s a silent army of 1,800,000 unpaid carers, some spending more than 100 hours a week looking after a loved one with dementia.

With one person in the UK developing Alzheimer’s every three minutes, it’s an issue close to several Nest colleagues’ hearts. It’s also likely to affect many Nest members. Some may even be forced to use their hard-earned pension savings to pay for care rather than on the retirement they’d been looking towards.

We’re proud to support Alzheimer’s Society and their mission to be there for everyone affected by dementia – both the people with dementia and those who support them. Over the next year, we’ll be holding several fundraising events for the company to get involved in. Next up, I’ll be taking part in a marathon run along the Thames path from Richmond to Windsor.

The organisation provides help from day one of diagnosis, including direct support face-to-face, over the phone and online. It invests in ground-breaking research to better treat and care for people with dementia and pushes the government to tackle issues that people in care homes and their families face.
