Your pension in action

As the world moves towards a low carbon economy and with potential disruptions to the fossil fuel market, renewable energy production is an attractive investment opportunity. Renewable energy sources, like solar farms, are a cleaner, more sustainable way to power our homes – as well as potentially powering your pension growth.

We’ve partnered with Octopus Renewables to invest billions in green energy around the world. It’s a big step towards our goal of net-zero carbon emissions and will help to reduce our financial carbon footprint.

So far, we’ve invested our members’ money in solar farms, wind farms and renewable energy power plants. To launch this exciting new project, we invited some of our members to a tour of a solar farm to show them where their money goes.

Together with Octopus Renewables, we’ve purchased a 15.4MW solar farm here in the UK. It’s around the same size as five football pitches and has 60,000 solar panels. This particular project shows that we can revive brownfield sites that are unsuitable for other developments, using them to generate green energy.

  • located in Reading, UK
  • can power up to 5,250 homes
  • built on a reclaimed landfill site

This straw-fired power station provides enough electricity to supply around 75,000 homes. It saves over 250,000 tons of CO2 every year – equivalent to nearly 70 million miles driven by an average car.

  • located in North Lincolnshire, UK
  • produces power from locally sourced fuels, like straw and miscanthus
  • supports jobs in the local agricultural and logistics sectors

This onshore wind farm is currently under construction, with building carefully planned to avoid interrupting the breeding season of local ospreys.

  • located outside Alingsås, southern Sweden
  • will power the equivalent of around 40,000 Swedish homes
  • will save an estimated 230,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions every year
