What happens to my pension when I die?

Your retirement pot is your property, so if you die before you take it, it’s up to you who gets it. All you need to do is let us know who and we’ll make sure they get it if you die. This can be a particular person, several different people, your favourite charity or any other organisation you’d like to see benefit.

It’s easy to let us know. Just log into your online account and go to ‘Edit your profile’. Fill in the section ‘Nominate a beneficiary’ and it’s all taken care of.

For a detailed explanation of how this works, visit the nominated beneficiary page in the Members’ help centre.

What happens if I do nothing?

If you don’t tell us who you want to get your pension pot, it may become a part of your estate. It’s then up to the executor of your will to determine who gets the money. Usually this will be your next of kin. Even if you’re happy with that choice, it’s worth letting us know who you nominate, as this can make the process of paying it out much faster.

How does NEST manage my money?

Our goal is to help you make the most of the money you give us to look after. This means keeping it safe and putting it to work for you.
