What are the rules for my password?

When you log into your online account for the first time you’ll need to create a username, password and answer some secret questions. To find out how to do this please see How do I log into my account for the first time?

When you create your password you need to make sure it’s secure. The password needs to:

  • be between 6-20 characters long
  • include at least one letter and one number. You can use the same letter, number or character up to four times. You’ll also be able to use a sequence of up to four letters or numbers if you wish, for example 1234 or abcd. You can also use !, “, £, $, %, ^, ;, *, -, @, #, | and /.

Passwords are case sensitive and can’t contain any of the other details we already have for you like username, date of birth, NEST ID or email address.

Please note, you’ll not be able to use a password manager to login. We’re always conscious of your security, as well as your satisfaction and feedback. We want our system to be as easy to use as possible while keeping our members money safe.

Your online NEST account is automatically locked when you enter incorrect login details more than three times. For more information on unlocking the account please see How do I unlock my account?
