How is tax relief calculated and claimed?

The tax relief method we use is relief at source.

If you’re eligible, we’ll claim tax relief from HMRC at a basic rate of 20% on all the eligible contributions that are made in your retirement pot.

The eligible contributions include: contributions deducted from your wages, one-off or regular additional contributions paid by you and any contributions paid by someone else on your behalf. We can’t claim tax relief for contributions your employer makes.

It can take up to three months for the tax relief contributions to show in your Nest retirement pot.

You can login to your online account and view the tax relief contributions on the dashboard.

If you pay income tax at the higher rate, you’ll need to speak to HMRC directly to claim any additional tax relief.
