Do I need to claim tax relief myself?

What do I need to know about tax relief?

  • Tax relief contributions to your Nest pension pot are made by the government.
  • We collect this tax relief on your behalf every time you or your employer make a contribution to your retirement pot.
  • Tax relief is currently set to a basic rate of 20 per cent. If you’re a higher earner you’ll need to speak with HMRC directly to claim any additional tax relief.
  • We’ll apply for the basic rate of tax relief as soon as we receive contributions from you or your employer.
  • It can take up to three months for the tax relief contributions to show in your Nest retirement pot.
  • You can see your tax relief contributions by logging in to your online account.
  • Click ‘Investment history’ in Quick links at the bottom of your dashboard.

  • To search through the contributions click ‘New search’.
  • You can enter any date from the beginning of your enrolment up to today’s date.
  • When you’ve done this click ‘List transactions’.

  • You’ll be able to see all contributions added to your pot within your searched date range.
  • You’ll also be able to see any tax relief that has been collected for you.
  • If you click on the small arrow next to each contribution you’ll be able to see the date and amount of the contribution.
