What being enrolled means

Being a member of NEST means that you’re now saving for your retirement. Every time you’re paid you can put a little bit of money aside into your retirement pot. NEST looks after this money for you. We’ll keep it safe and try to make it grow over the years so that you end up with more than you put in.

If you’ve been automatically enrolled by your employer or joined NEST on your own you may be wondering what happens next. The good news is that it’s really easy.

You’ll receive a welcome pack through the post. This explains how NEST works and the things you can do now to start making the most of being a member of NEST. For example, it outlines how you can log into your online account to keep track of your retirement pot, make extra payments or change the way your money’s looked after.

Your welcome pack

In your welcome pack you’ll find a letter and the booklet, Your quick guide to NEST. These cover the basics about being a NEST member, including how to start using your NEST online account.

Your welcome letter includes your unique NEST ID number. You’ll need this the first time you log into your online account and as a reference later on, so it’s a good idea to keep this safe.

To find out everything else you need to know about being a member of NEST, take a look at the detailed Welcome to NEST booklet we’ve emailed to your secure NEST mailbox. You can also find this below — choose the link that best describes your situation for the version that’s right for you:

If you’re still not sure which of these booklets applies to you, please ask your employer. Or you can just log into your NEST online account and go to ‘Mailbox’ to find the version we’ve sent to you.

Log into your online account

When you log into your online account for the first time we’ll ask you for your NEST ID and your National Insurance (NI) number or your unique identifier if your employer used one. If you don’t have your NEST ID you can still log in with your NI number.

What is NEST?

NEST is a workplace pension scheme created especially for auto enrolment. It’s been set up by the government but is run independently as a trust. That means there are no shareholders so everything we do is for the benefit of our members.
