How do I use NEST so it works with Sage?

When you set up NEST, in step five you need to tell us how often you pay your workers. If you’re setting up NEST to work with Sage you’ll need to put your workers into groups that use tax pay periods.

If you pay your workers monthly you’ll need to select ‘Tax Monthly’ as your pay period. If you’re paying them weekly you’ll need to choose ‘Tax Weekly’. For more information please see How do I align my periods to the tax month? or How do I align my pay periods to the tax week?

If you pay your workers fortnightly or four weekly you’ll have to select the pay period from a Friday to Thrusday, because 6 April 2018, the start of the current tax year, was a Friday. If you set them to begin on a Friday they’ll be aligned with the 2018/19 tax year. You’ll need to create a new group at the end of every tax year and move your workers to this new group to keep them aligned to the tax period. For more information please see How do I align my pay periods to the fortnightly tax period? or How do I align my pay periods to a four weekly tax period?

If you’ve already created a group aligned to the calendar month you can add a new group afterwards to align it with a tax pay period. Please see Adding a new group for more information. You’ll also need to move your workers into this new group.

To change a worker's group manually online please see How do I change a member’s group by entering information for one member at a time into the website? You can also upload a file if you want to change the group for a large number of workers. To do this please see How do I change a member’s group using a CSV file?

Making a payment

If you use Sage for your payroll you’ll still need to let us know each pay period that you’re ready to make a payment.

To do this you’ll need to go to ‘Manage contributions’ and click ‘Submit schedule’ button to complete your submission.

For more information on what to do next please see How do I submit a contribution schedule on the website for payment?
