This National Insurance number has been used for another active worker in your account. Please check the National Insurance Number you’re using for this new enrolment. Alternatively, to find and correct the existing worker’s details go to ‘Manage workers’ and search for this NI number.

You’ve received this error message because the National Insurance number updated in the file has already been used for another worker. You’ll need to check if:

1. The National Insurance number is in use for an active worker.

If the National Insurance number belongs to another active worker on your Nest account you’ll need to correct it in your file before enrolling your new worker. You can view the error message for the worker and correct it from Manage workers area of your Nest account. For more information on how to do this please see How do I correct errors in the CSV enrolment file?

2. Incorrect National Insurance number is allocated to an active worker.

If you’ve accidentally put the new worker’s National Insurance number in one of your active worker’s details, you’ll need to correct this before you can enrol the new worker. Please see How do I edit a worker’s personal details? for more information. While correcting the National insurance number if you’re getting a message of completing internal checks on your Nest account, you’ll need to ask the worker to contact us to update their details.

3. The National Insurance number is used for another worker in the same enrolment file.

If the National Insurance number is used for another worker in the same enrolment file you’ll need to correct this before enrolling the worker. Once the National Insurance number is updated in your file and it doesn’t match any of the others, you can enrol the worker.
